A Family Business Built on Engineering and Belief.

TerrainHopper was founded by Sam and Debbie — a husband and wife with a shared passion for the outdoors and a frustration with what the mobility market had to offer. Sam, with an extensive background in engineering, saw a gap that no manufacturer was filling: a genuinely capable off-road mobility vehicle that could take riders to the places they actually wanted to go. Not along pavements. Not on flat paths. Into nature — up hills, across beaches, through mud, snow and rocky trails.

The first TerrainHopper was built to order. So was every one after it. Each customer arrived with different needs — a different condition, different terrain, a different way of moving through the world — and Sam engineered a solution for each one. No isolated prototypes. No development cycles disconnected from real riders. Every refinement came from a real person with a real requirement.

How We Grew

Built From Scratch. Built to Last.

There was no blueprint for what TerrainHopper was trying to do.

Debbie took on everything beyond the workshop — customer relationships, administration, early demonstrations, shows and events — building the kind of personal care and attention that has kept customers coming back and referring their friends for over 15 years. Sam focused on the engineering, refining every component based on real-world feedback from real riders. Between them, they built a business that now serves customers in over 30 countries.

Every new customer brought a new engineering challenge. Some riders couldn't grip traditional handlebars due to limited hand function — so joystick controls were developed, configurable for left or right hand use and operable with minimal grip. Riders with tetraplegia needed single-finger operation. Farmers needed towbars and winches. Taller riders needed extended chassis. Customers exploring beaches needed sealed electronics rated for salt water exposure.

Over 15 years, the range of adaptations grew: adjustable seating for different mobility conditions, harness systems for steep terrain, custom joystick sensitivity for progressive conditions like MS and Parkinson's, and chassis extensions for riders up to 6 feet 4 inches tall. No two TerrainHoppers are identical — because no two riders are.
